Home Visit

Our home visit service

Do you need a hand therapist to come to you or an elderly relative at home?

Getting to one of our clinics is not always easy, and Telehealth isn’t for everyone. That’s why we can visit you, or someone you care for at home.

Whether you are recovering from an injury or need help managing an ongoing medical condition, our home visit service is an extension of our regular expert hand therapy service.

If you’d like to book a hand therapy home visit, our caring and experienced team will:

  • Guide you through how we work together and book your first appointment over the phone;
  • A hand therapist will then visit at home for the first appointment;
  • The hand therapist will listen closely to what’s happened and how it’s affecting you and then complete a thorough assessment.
  • After the assessment, the hand therapist will make a diagnosis and create a management plan to achieve your health goals;
  • Once we have agreed on the plan, your hand therapy treatment will commence right away on the same day.

Our goal is to provide you with the right hand therapy treatment to help you get back to doing all the things you love.

FAQ

Home visit infection control

Our staff are trained in infection prevention measures to keep our clients, family members and staff safe while delivering care. All Melbourne Hand Rehab practitioners and admin team members have completed their certification in the Australian Government Department of Health COVID-19 infection control training.

We are asking all our clients to work with us to help keep our community safe, by telling us if:

  • You have been in contact with someone who has COVID-19, or who thinks that they might have COVID-19, since your last in-home or clinic visit
  • You have become unwell and think this could be related to being in contact with someone who has COVID-19, or thinks that they might have COVID-19
  • You have recently been overseas or interstate and are required to self-isolate for 14 days.

The health and wellbeing of our valued patients, community, and our team here at Melbourne Hand Rehab are our highest priority. If you would like to learn more about our infection prevention measures, you can contact us on 9458 5166

How do I pay for my home visit consultation?

We use Medipass, which allows for you to pay for your consult on your mobile phone via encrypted software. It’s really easy!

Can I claim private health?

You can claim a rebate for online consultations from your health insurance company in exactly the same way as you would for a clinic consultation.

Can I claim Medicare for home visit consultation?

Yes. If you are eligible for an EPC plan, you will be able to access 5 bulk billed Hand Therapy Online consultations, therefore you will not be out of pocket. You will need to ask your GP if you qualify and ask your GP to provide you with an Chronic Disease Management/EPC plan.

Can I use NDIS for home visit consultations?

Yes, you can use your NDIS funding. We currently only have the capacity to work with self managed and plan managed NDIS clients.

Do I need a referral?

No, you can simply make a booking. You do not need a referral from your doctor to see a hand therapist as a private patient.

However, a doctor’s referral is required if you are claiming through a compensable body such as WorkSafe, TAC or the DVA.

How long is a consultation?

Sessions are 40 minutes for an initial consultation and 20 minutes for a follow up consultation.
