Leather Splints

Custom made leather splints

Melbourne Hand Rehab custom make leather splints to fit you individually. If you are restricted in your activities due to ongoing wrist or thumb pain, or wrist arthritis, you may have a need for a brace to support the wrist.

Our splints provide maximum support for long term use of chronic injuries including osteoarthritis and chronic wrist pain.

Custom made, long lasting, leather braces and splints fit your wrist perfectly, are hard wearing and breathable. Our braces allow for a comfortable degree of movement, while providing exceptional support for the wrist.

The benefit of leather is that overtime it adjusts to your body and conforms to you. It’s environmentally friendly too.

FAQ

What is the process for ordering a custom leather splint?

To be fitted for a custom leather wrist or thumb brace, speak to your hand therapist. Your therapist will create the mould of your hand(s) that is then used to create your custom splint in our Leather Lab. Your leather brace will be delivered back to your therapist in approximately 6-8 weeks.

How does a leather splint differ from a custom thermoplastic splint or off the shelf brace?

When well cared for, leather is more long lasting than thermoplastic. The leather will soften and conform over time to allow a gentle range of movement to support your hand and wrist during everyday activities. Custom splints are made specifically for you allowing optimal healing and rehabilitation.

Is it easy to care for a leather splint?
Maintain the condition of your leather splint by avoiding getting it wet and using a leather cleaner and conditioner. Treat your splint the same as leather shoes or a handbag.
  • Use a leather preservative and cleaner, such as Dubbin and saddle soap, every 1 to 2 weeks.
  • Avoid using products that contain silicon.
  • Avoid soaking the splint in water, as the leather will become brittle and will affect the fit of the splint.
